Singapore Airlines Suites (First) Class – Singapore to Sydney (SQ 221) – Airbus A380-800 – Sydney Video

In this trip report, we take a look at the Singapore Airlines A380 Suites Class on board a flight from Singapore to Sydney.

The journey begins with our ride dropping us off at the dedicated First Class terminal at Changi airport. Our bags and check-in formalities are handled by the concierge service as we wait comfortably in a lounge area. It’s not before we make our way through a private immigration lane, which exits conveniently in front of the SilverKris lounge entrance.

As we’re flying in Suites Class, we’re granted entrance to the exclusive “Private Room”. We indulge in an a-la-carte mid-afternoon meal in the dining area, and then have a quick look around the lounge before heading to the gate for boarding.

Suites Class passengers board the A380 via a separate jetbridge that leads directly to the cabin. SQ 221 has been operating on the latest A380s with the newest Suites product since late 2017. However, on this flight we encounter the decade-old Suites product due to a last-minute equipment change. Nevertheless, it’s an excellent First Class product which I review again in great detail. All the nooks and crannies are examined – the seat, the cushion, the leather appointments, the fixed shell surrounding the seat, the IFE screen, the ottoman, the storage spaces, the privacy screen, etc.

This 8 hour flight has two meal services available. Dinner is served soon after take-off and a continental breakfast is served prior to landing. For dinner, we pre-book (via the “Book the Cook”option) the Japanese fine-dining option, which is the Kyo Kaiseki meal. The highlights include Dom Perignon/Krug champagne, caviar, a multi-course Japanese tasting menu, and the Wedgwood bone china the meals are served on. After finishing dinner, we take a sleep in the very comfortable and luxurious Suites double bed. We skip the breakfast service as there’s not enough time to squeeze it in after waking up from our sleep.

In terms of amenities, SQ hands out Lalique amenity kits and pyjamas in Suites Class.

Upon arrival in Sydney, we quickly breeze through immigration & customs and pick up our baggage. We then catch a pre-arranged limo back home.

  2. Thanks for another great escapism video 🙂 A couple of questions if you don't mind. In your experience, do many First Class passengers take advantage of the lounge before flying? And which is your favourite….Dom or Krug? 😉 WHAT????? No after dinner cheese??? 🙂

  4. Another great video Eddie. I would have been gutted at the late plane swap and suite change. 30,000 complimentary KrisFlyer miles wouldn't have softened the blow for me.

  5. Hey Eddie! I always wondered why you travel so frequent? Is it work or leisure? I may remember you answering this question before in a video a while back. I'm a big fan of flying as well, its a shame work only requires it every 3 months😥

  6. Singapore airlines is pure class. Even when they get it wrong they get it right. I thought the aircraft swap was a slight mis-step on their part. Nope. Had that covered too. Love it.

  11. I know it is small thing in the grand scheme of things, but the change of aircraft would have annoyed me really bad… Well it waa nice of SQ to offer compensation – more than many other airlines would ever do.

  14. The overall experience was jaw-dropping one. Just a bit disappointment that you couldn't enjoy the newer first class which is multiple times better than the former…..

  15. I have been tossing up where to go on an overseas holiday. I've only ever been to Fiji & that was38 years ago so I'm going to treat myself. I do not know any other language besides english so if you would have any suggestions for a 2 week holiday, warm or cold weather, first class, i would greatly appreciate it. Regards, Deborah

  16. Brilliant as always.. I do appreciate what SIA did to apologize, even if I think it should be very disappointing to get the old version of first suite… Singapore airlines is the best at my opinion.. Best regards to you both

  17. First Class has been upgraded in the last few years because the FC lounge used to just be right next to BC, and when I looked inside, basically it seemed pretty similar to BC except smaller. And on the plane, there were no "suites" just bigger seats.

  20. Great report.

This sadly sums up the A380, it offers you all that bedding and sleep with your partner, but then used on a high traffic 8 hour flight when not normally needed unless it takes off at 11pm.

Meanwhile where it is needed, like Singapore to New York or Perth to London, the B787/A350 planes make do with business class and no first at all offered.

The times they are a changing….

  27. out of curiosity, were the 30,000 compensatory points something SA proffered, or did you have to complain about the plane switch to get them to cough them up?

  28. How do compare it to the new ones
