After fifty years, the longest-serving member of staff at the Sydney Opera House is calling it a day. Steve Tsoukalas migrated to Australia from Greece in 1968 and soon started work on the opera house’s construction.
Starting his days on the building’s construction, completed in 1973, Steve soon moved onto maintenance, coming up with his own recipes to look after the concrete and bronze throughout the building. Just weeks from retirement, he reflects on his years working inside one of the world’s most iconic buildings.
